Ivanhoe Swim is now a Puggles Swim School!

We’re proud to share some exciting news – Ivanhoe Swim now has Puggles Swim certified teachers on deck, making us an official Puggles Swim School.

So, what is Puggles Swim? It’s Australia’s first nationally endorsed online learn-to-swim program designed to support the communication needs of Deaf and Hard of Hearing children. Developed through a partnership between Deaf Children Australia, AUSTSWIM, and Swim Coaches and Teachers Australia (SCTA) – alongside leading instructors and Deaf elite swimmers – it’s a genuinely world-class initiative built on real expertise and lived experience.

Our certified Puggles instructors – known as Puggles Skippers – have completed the accredited course and are equipped with the skills to teach Deaf and Hard of Hearing children in a mainstream class environment. This means families no longer need to search for a specialist-only setting; inclusive swimming is right here.

We know from research commissioned by Puggles Swim that parents of Deaf and Hard of Hearing children are deeply concerned about water safety, worried about access to mainstream activities, and frustrated by the lack of suitable learn-to-swim options. We want Ivanhoe Swim to be part of the solution to that.

Every child has the right to learn to swim. We’re glad we can now better support more of our community to do just that.
