A group of Ivanhoe Swims State and National-level swimmers recently undertook a focused four-day training camp against the serene backdrop of Thredbo mountain. The summer altitude setting provided an ideal environment for these athletes to refine their skills, undergo intensive training, and gear up for the upcoming season.
Day 1
As the swimmers arrived at the Thredbo Alpine Village after a long drive the team engaged in structured orientation sessions, outlining the training schedule and objectives for the upcoming days in addition to their first swim session. The goal was to create a conducive environment for focused training amidst the tranquil summer ambiance.
Day 2
On Day 2 the training camp shifted its focus to the Thredbo Leisure Centre, offering state-of-the-art aquatic facilities at altitude. High-altitude conditions were leveraged to challenge the swimmers’ endurance and adaptability. Between the sessions the swimmers were challenged on a hike to the summit of Mt. Kosciusko with all swimmers making the summit. The day finished with meditation and stretch session led by Ako.
Day 3
It was another double session on Day 3 of camp with the swimmers completing two more sessions with an emphasis on aerobic development. The swimmers were given some time to rest and recover….in addition to a bit of shopping! After dinner it was another Daily Debrief with a few games.
Day 4
After the 6th and final session the swimmers visited the memorial of the Thredbo land slide before lunch and heading home.
The swimmers must be congratulated for their enthusiasm, positivity and commitment to improving their swimming on the camp. Big thank you to Ako and Katrina for their hard work in organising and delivering the camp.
